Who knows, maybe the thing will decide to grow, this year or next. Sigh. I had really hoped to graft from it onto the two new rootstocks I planted this spring. At least those rootstocks are looking good. I'm impressed at how much growth is coming from the 14" twigs with two little stringy roots trailing off their bottoms. But they have both already put out several inches of top growth and probably as many leaves as the poor Ashmead. I haven't dug up the roots, of course, but I assume they are growing as well.
