[nafex] m-26 interstems precocious

I'm happy to report that the droves of m-26 interstem grafts I did on hapless seedling whips growing around the property were successful and they are definitely precocious- nearly half of them are showing pink and set to flower, not bad for last years graft! The rootstock varied in size from 1/4" to 3/8", and grew well despite no watering or mulch. I did both grafts (interstem and variety) at the same time and had near 100% success. I kept the interstem short so that bur knots are too bad. With the number of wild seedling trees that I have to choose from, I don't think I'll ever plant an apple tree again. -Devin
