Re: [nafex] Niwot primocane-fruiting black raspberry available

Pete, thanks for your recent response to my inquiry about why my
raspberries tend to die out after several years at 7000 feet in NM.

You mentioned that they don't like wet feet. My soil is pretty heavy
clay without a lot of organic matter. I'm thinking of adding lots of
compost etc but also wondering if it would help to work in some sand for
drainage and aeration.

What do you think? And how deep should I amend the soil for raspberry roots?

Would it help to put a 3 or 4 inch layer of gravel UNDER the root zone
and then put the soil mix (with sand) above the gravel?
